Palma will be inaugurating this evening the new event centre Son Fusteret with the concert by Fito y los Fitipaldis and La Cabra Mecánica.

The Son Fusteret event centre is a new and well-communicated centre located close to the city centre, that offers an alternative for the hosting of concerts as well as other type of events. These premises, with a budget of 745,047.43€, have been financed by funds made available by the State Fund for Local Investment.

The Son Fusteret event centre is an open-air centre with a built surface of 54,051 m2 and is located close to the city centre. It aims to become a point of reference for Palma and its objective is to permanently host a wide scope of large-scale, open-air cultural and leisure activities aimed at any type of audience. Out of the total of 54,051 m2, approximately 10,000 m2 are strictly reserved for concerts, including an area for the audience, the stage and the backstage. The remaining built surface has been allocated to a car-park for 1,000 cars, which is complemented by a free car-park for 915 cars, that was built last year in June by the City Council of Palma, right next to the Son Fuster tube station.

The building is finished off with prefabricated elements of reinforced concrete in inverted "U" form.

The recently built premises in Son Fusteret complement the Fira del Ram fairgrounds (only set up three months a year: February, March and April). Throughout the rest of the year, the module system allows for the creation of an indoor centre to host any kind of events. Its large surface and its design provide a flexible platform for multiple uses: concerts, shows, sport activities, fairs, etc.

The concert premises provide the site, thanks to the cultural and leisure open-air centre, with an added value. Palma, which did not have such a site before, is hereby provided with exclusive premises to host such kind of events.

How to get there

Son Fusteret is located right next to the tube station 'Son Fuster'. Hence, this gives visitors the chance to reach Plaça de Espanya within a few minutes. Two tube lines of the Municipal Transport Company of Palma (EMT) connect the Son Fusteret event centre with the city centre of Palma. One is tube line nr. 10 (Son Cladera) and the other one nr. 11 (sa Indioteria). On the occasion of the concert performed on 22nd January, the EMT will extend the schedule of line 10 until the end of the concert. The average frequency of this line is 12 minutes.

The premises offer visitors a signposted car-park for 1,000 vehicles. Besides, as of June 2009, the site offers a free car-park for 917 cars too.
